Moving Tips

Relocating to a new city or country can be a very unnerving process. Here are some tips to help you get through the ordeal without feeling hassled and exhausted.

  1. Before beginning the relocation process, you need to check on a few things. Clean out your refrigerator and freezer and let them dry for at least 24 hours. Disconnect and remove the wires and cables of stereos, TVs, computers, VCRs, and all other electronic devices. Take apart all fixtures that are secured to the walls, like bookshelves, racks, and curtain rods. All electronics equipment need to be mentioned specifically in the carrier's inventory.
  2. Drain the gas and oil from all machinery, such as edger, and lawn mowers. We do not move combustible or inflammable items of any kind.
  3. Before the packing process starts, remove all kinds of valuables and keep them in a secure place. Along with your personal effects, you need to carry valuable things along with you when you travel. In case you want the moving company to be in charge of such items, you need to specify the conditions in the High-Value Inventory program. You need to fill up a form and provide a completed copy of this to packers and specifically identify the items that are to be included in your consignment.
  4. You, or an authorized representative, should be present during the entire packing, loading, and unloading process.
  5. Make sure you read your contract carefully and understand your Valuation Options. When your shipment is loaded, you will be required to sign a Bill of Lading and fill in the valuation amount. This is necessary in order to protect your consignment. You also need to check the deductible option in accordance with your preferences. We would suggest you opt for the Full Value Protection option offered by United Van Lines.
  6. Check on all the loaded and packed items before releasing them. You might have to pay extra for items that are left behind.
  7. Provide the driver detailed directions to your new destination. It is also a good idea to pass on your cellular or en route numbers in case of emergencies.

Remember that we are there with you through the entire process of moving. If you need us, just call on our toll free number.
